When I was a child, I would sit under the stars at night and dream of faraway lands. My passion for photography and video and my never-ending desire to explore has given me the ability to accomplish many of those childhood dreams and travel to many places.
I have been shooting professionally for about ten years. When asked what my specialty is, it’s always hard to say. Because I have had to shoot so many different subjects in varying circumstances for my clients, I would say I am a generalist. I’m comfortable shooting almost anything. I do studio and tabletop work. I’ve shot weddings. I shoot portraits and landscapes. I have even shot out of helicopters with the doors off! And survived!!!
My personal shooting though consists of a lot of abstract and macro work. I really love shooting flowers, a gift I inherited from my mother. And one of my most favorite subjects is Humpback Whales. I discovered them on a whale watch off Boston in the 1980s and have been trying to find a way to run away and join a whale watch boat ever since. I'm still trying.
Thank you to friends and family who have been supportive and are great photographers in their own right. I have been fortunate to have had some major encouragement along this somewhat bumpy road. Especially from my partner and best friend, Cliff Sobel, who has shown patience and creative support. One of my best friends, Gwen Ferry has been known to take me to strange places and shoot strange things! Interesting stuff. My high school friend, Jan Pudlow, put an SLR into my hand for the first time and kind of got this ball rolling. It took awhile to pick up speed, but everything in it’s time! Jeewon Shin has been my photo editor for many years and one of my best fans. Catherine Ciapas has been on the road with me for many episodes of Shooter’s Insights and kept me standing. Patrick Friedman, a photo teacher, I thank you for getting me into manual shooting! Kris Bosworth, a former dark room photography teacher, encouraged me to pursue this passion and to pick up a digital camera when it wasn’t fashionable to do so. My kids, Jayme and Aydan have suffered through being my models on many occasions over the years. They now carry cameras around too! Justice is served. The rest is history.
Special thanks to many who have inspired me to see and create better photographs.
