Los Angeles

We continue to up the barre with video documentaries created for the Canon Digital Learning Center. I went to Los Angeles to shoot Canon Explorer of Light Vincent Laforet, as he demonstrated the features and capabilities of the new EOS-1D Mark IV.

His crew spent 2 days shooting around the downtown LA area, from sunrise to well past sundown in order to show the amazing portability and low light capability of the camera as Vince’s production team shot a spec spot for VW.

Joining me for this shoot were Canon Technical Advisor Chuck Westfall, Cliff Sobel, Catherine Ciapas and Zach Ettinger of The Phoenix Group. It was very interesting seeing the streets of LA from this vantage point. Vince picked a lot of interesting locations to shoot sequences for his mock VW spot. One included a long stretch of a two way street. I got to occupy the passenger seat of the VW and film an interview with the stunt driver while he was driving. I got a great clip from inside the car to match up with what Vince’s crew was shooting outside the car. Another sequence was shot on a bridge that has been seen in countless TV shows and movies. It’s usually the scene of a shootout or a chase. In this case, we shot the car zipping along while being filmed by a very delicate and sophisticated dolly/crane mounted on an SUV that followed the VW. Got a chance to see how it’s done in Hollywood!
