Tyler selected the beautiful red-rock Arches National Park as the setting for a Shooter’s Insight for the new EOS 5D Mark II. Our crew flew out to Moab and went on a great journey into the park to get a “behind the scenes” look at how Tyler works.
Being able to enjoy this wondrous area long before the sun comes up is quite an amazing experience. Breakfast at 4 am, pack up the gear and get to the staging area before 5, everyday. Tyler picked a few different types of shoots to do to show the versatility of this camera.
A couple of motorcycles “movin’ on down the road” before the sunrise offered some great opportunities for some low light shooting. With Utah’s Finest blocking the road, we had total access to the highway and Tyler set up some “studio” lights to shoot a couple of sets in addition to the action shots. As the sun rose, we finally got to see the amazing landscape that surrounded us in the dark. Many miles of colorful canyons, mesas and buttes.
In the afternoon, we climbed down into the canyon to film some climbers making their way to the top of the very narrow island of rock. This made for an interesting vantage point for Tyler to get some great stills.
Interestingly enough, on this shoot Tyler said he would probably never shoot video with the cameras, and yet he has managed to create an award winning video documentary!! We all get the bug sooner or later!
